Good afternoon, Essex Elementary School Community, and happy Thursday before a long weekend!
There is no school tomorrow, Friday, October 9, for staff professional development, or Monday, October 12, for Indigenous Peoples Day.
This past week provided two great opportunities for families and students to connect with school outside of the classroom.
First, through the Harvest Festival. Our PTO did an OUTSTANDING job organizing this year's event! Even a light dusting of rain couldn't dampen the festivities.
Next was our Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day. Close to 50 students and families joined us at the Ivoryton Green for an early-morning bike ride to school.
Today concluded fire prevention week at EES with an assembly by the Essex Fire Department. This annual assembly is always informative and a great reminder to check the batteries in our smoke alarms at home.
Halloween
We will celebrate Halloween at EES on Friday, October 30, with our annual parade and classroom/grade-level festivities. New this year, we will be allowing all students and staff to wear costumes!
Here are the guidelines we respectfully ask everyone to follow:
First, this is optional. Students and staff do not have to dress up.
Next, all costumes must be Safe, Respectful, and School-Appropriate.
-
Safe: Faces visible, no weapons/weapon-like props, safe footwear, able to move freely.
-
Respectful: No costumes that demean, stereotype, or make fun of others.
-
School Appropriate: No excessive gore, frightening imagery, inappropriate language/content, or costumes that significantly interfere with learning.
Our Halloween parade will take place at 2:00 pm. Students in grades preschool through 3 will follow the parade route, and students in grades 4 through 6 will line the interior halls to cheer them on. The younger students will then continue along the route outside, where families are invited to observe the procession.
For families who wish to observe the preschool through grade 3 parade, we will send out an RSVP later next week.
Your classroom teachers will contact you about individual classroom celebrations.
In partnership,
